The sing of the shore

Cornish fishermen have a term for the distinctive sound made by the waves as they break against the land be it sand, pebbles, rocks or cliffs.

It is said, in times gone by during darkness, in thick fog or sea mist a skilled mariner could navigate soley by listening to the sing of the shore.
