Atlantic Roller

With this panoramic piece, I wanted to capture the sheer energy and movement of a single wave as it crests and breaks along the shoreline.

The horizontal composition allows the eye to follow the entire sweep of the surf. I used a vibrant, translucent sea-green to show the light passing through the curve of the water, contrasting it sharply against the deep, inky blue of the open ocean and a wide summer sky.

In the foreground, I focused on painting the intricate, laced patterns of the spindrift foam as it washes across the shallows.
