Living on the Atlantic coast the gulls are a constant presence, during the summer their raucous cries shatter the air from well before dawn until nightfall.
St Ives is infamous for the local gulls voracious appetites and criminal tendencies. Although they are mainly herring gulls, they have developed a taste for relieving unsuspecting tourists of their Cornish pasties and ice creams, easy pickings for these aerial acrobats.
While many see the gulls as a menace, there is no doubting the skill and grace of their flight whether gliding gently on the breeze, selecting their next victim or swerving in for a precise and speedy theft.
As the evening approaches large flocks of gulls can be seen heading home to roost.
