Looking across from Carbis Bay (Porthrepta) towards St Ives, 'the island', true to its name appears detached from the rest of the headland.
In this painting I have tried to capture the many hues of the Atlantic from turquoise in the shallows to very dark royal blue almost black on the horizon.
In between, the fleeting clouds reflect from the mirror like water turning the surface a darker blue as they pass.
On days like this, when the clouds pass quickly across the sky, the surface of the sea appears to constantly change colour from light to dark as if some amphibian monster were silently passing beneath the surface.
